I’m happy to announce the general availability of Centrify Server Suite 2016.1. Server Suite is our flagship product for enterprise-ready privileged identity management (PIM). It’s a big part of our overall PIM solution, along with Centrify Privilege Service.
Every year, we aim to deliver one major feature release of Server Suite, usually towards the end of the calendar year, and a minor release in the late spring or early summer that rolls up all the maintenance work we’ve done and introduces a few minor feature updates.
In this year’s maintenance release, however, we’ve added what I think are some really significant features that focus on Centrify’s MFA Everywhere initiative — providing the additional security of multi-factor authentication to protect critical IT infrastructure, where you need it, when you need it.
First, we’ve added platform support for MFA on AIX, HP-UX and Solaris systems, which means you get the added protection of MFA at user login and privilege elevation across Centrify’s entire Linux and UNIX landscape.
Second, we’ve enabled MFA for privilege elevation on Windows computers, a new option that presents MFA to users when they use the Run with Privilege command. (We’re working on MFA for both console and remote user login for Windows in an update for you later this calendar year).
Third, MFA for servers now works with Classic and Auto zones! If you have a Centrify deployment that pre-dates Server Suite 2012, or you haven’t yet migrated to Centrify’s patented hierarchical zones, you can use MFA by upgrading to this new release and purchasing the appropriate MFA licenses from your Centrify sales representative, without changing your zone structure.
Fourth, if you have either an existing RSA SecurID deployment or you use an OATH-based service for MFA, you can now use both with server MFA in this release of Server Suite. There’s a new integration guide for SecurID that ships with Server Suite, and OATH support lets you use USB tokens like YubiKey, or soft tokens like Google Authenticator, FreeOTP, or Duo with MFA for Server Suite.
There are over a hundred other changes and enhancements to Server Suite in the 2016.1 release, including:
- Hadoop support enhancements
- Elliptic Curve algorithm support for certificate management and auto-enrollment (smart cards)
- Enhancements to command line utilities and configuration parameters
- Centrify Report Services enhancements
- New audit trail events and enhanced PowerShell cmdlets for MFA
- Updates to open source utilities like Centrify OpenSSH
- Updated platform support for Linux, UNIX and Windows
